Christmas Tree Guide
Care, Safety & Advice
At MR M Christmas Trees, we care deeply about both our trees and our customers. To help you enjoy your tree at its very best, we’ve put together some simple advice and tips on how to care for it before, during, and after the festive season.
Prep Your Tree
Before Bringing Your Tree Indoors
-
When your tree arrives, keep it in a cool, shaded place outdoors until you’re ready to bring it inside.
-
If possible, saw a small slice (around 1–2 cm) off the base of the trunk before placing it in water. This opens up the pores and helps the tree absorb moisture more effectively.
-
Always use a sturdy stand that holds plenty of water.
Perfect Placement
Positioning Your Tree
-
Place your tree away from direct heat sources such as radiators, fireplaces, or underfloor heating, as these will dry it out quickly.
-
Avoid positioning it in direct sunlight or in draughty areas, as this can also reduce its longevity.
-
Make sure your tree has space to stand upright and branches aren’t pressed against walls or furniture.
Keeping it fresh
Caring for Your Tree Indoors
-
Keep the water reservoir topped up daily — a real tree can absorb up to two pints (around a litre) of water each day.
-
Never let the base of the trunk dry out, as it will seal over and stop taking in water.
-
Check lights and decorations are cool to the touch and use only low-heat or LED lights to prevent drying.
Protecting Your Space
Safety Tips
-
Keep your tree away from heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying and reduce fire risk.
-
Ensure it stands securely in a stable, level stand.
-
Use only indoor-rated lights, avoid overloading sockets, and switch them off when leaving the house or going to bed.
-
Keep candles, open flames, and flammable decorations well away from the tree.
Final Bow
End of Season
-
Once the festivities are over, your tree can be recycled or composted through local council collection services.
-
If you wish, you can also re-purpose branches for winter mulch or garden décor.
-
We also offer a collection and disposal service we can add as part of your package.
